GPSC Workshop @ ESRIN

Updated: Jul 13, 2018

The Global Platform for Sustainable Cities (GPSC) Programme - supported by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and World Bank - is collaborating with the EO4SD-Urban project on the utility of geo-spatial data for applications on Urban Sustainability. To this aim, the GPSC Indicators, Geospatial Tools and GPSC Urban Sustainability Framework Meeting was held at ESA ESRIN, Frascati, September 26 to 28, 2016 with the participation of the EO4SD-Consoritum. The aim of this meeting was to:

  • Present and gather feedback from partner agencies and participating cities regarding key components of the Urban Sustainability Framework (USF);

  • Better understand the needs of cities and challenges which they might face in implementing various components of the USF;

  • Showcase opportunities where geospatial data can be tapped on to better support sustainable urban planning.

The Consortium presented the EO4SD-Urban project as well as examples of on the utility of the geospatial products for urban planning. Example of the Urban extent products produced by DLR for all 23 GPSC cities were shown as a demo-runner and raised a high level of interest from the participants.

The Meeting was of key importance for the EO4SD-Urban Consortium for making direct contact with all representatives of the Cities who attended the meeting, as well as the implementing agencies (i.e., UNIDO, World Bank, African Development Bank, UN-Habitat). This provided fruitful for further stakeholder engagement to discuss the product requirements with the Cities.
